I unchecked the romance bookshelf because if this is a romance, I don't want it. Connell and Marianne and two bookish people that no one truly likes and this is the story of their on-again/off-again friendship with sex and rudeness. I really didn't like either character, even when I was supposed to pity them. He treats her like dirt and she's so emotionally damaged that she loves men to treat her like dirt. I don't understand people like this and don't like to read about them. As for the writing style, I did enjoy it--there were some beautiful short sentences (yay for not being wordy!) so I'd like to read another book by Rooney to see how I feel about it.
