Review: Forever . . .
Forever . . . by Judy Blume
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Love, love, love the new audio version of this classic! When you're listening, the ellipses work. I'm old enough now that I feel a bit pervy when listening to a 17-year-old talk about her sex life, though, but I remember reading this book when I was a teenager and loving it. I had a paperback copy that I bought at Waldenbooks at the mall. :)

Review: The Scotch-Irish: A Social History
The Scotch-Irish: A Social History by James Graham Leyburn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I read more of this than I thought I would! Originally written in 1962, it's a bit dry in parts and jumps to a lot of conclusions in others. But I appreciated learning about how people lived in the Lowlands of Scotland and why they jumped at the chance to move to Ireland. Then, after a few generations, they abandoned Ireland and took a chance in the Americas. I have some ancestors in the groups that settled in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, and now I wonder if they were indentured servants? I wish I knew and could find out! I can't wait to retire and track down the life stories of some of these folks.

Review: Redemption
Redemption by David Baldacci
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I always think I've read these books before when I start them, but that's because these popular authors know how to include enough of the previous books at the beginning to refresh the reader's memory. Decker is back with his photographic memory and this time he's trying to solve a mystery about a man he convicted years ago for murder who now claims to be innocent. As always, he thwarts the FBI (his employer) to run around on his own and solve a mystery. My common sense says--who pays for his hospital bills in this book? If the FBI let him go, how does he have insurance?

Review: Dreams of Willow House
Dreams of Willow House by Susanne O'Leary
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Gearing up for my next trip to Ireland, so trying to get in the mood by reading some books set there. I didn't read Book #1 or #2 in this series, but you don't need to. However, the plot of this book bothered me--an American woman jumps on the idea that she is the long lost cousin of a famous Irish romance writer simply because the birthday, first name, and location of the woman missing is the same as her mother. The "mystery" is learning more about her family background and she falls in love along the way. I didn't get attached to any of the characters which led to the 2 star rating of the book being "okay." Several steps seemed unbelievable in the plot, too, like how Cordelia is instantly invited to come to Ireland to run the family B&B because a woman trained as a beautician would know how to cook full Irish breakfasts and learn the secrets of running a successful business in a week?

Review: Still Life
Still Life by Louise Penny
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Now I understand why this series is so popular and I wonder why it took me so long to read anything by Louise Penny? Rick Riordan said it best in his review--I loved the coziness of this because the characters are mostly "good" people. Small town life isn't trashed in this book, which is lovely. I feel like the whole character of Agent Nichol was handled a bit weirdly but maybe that will come together in book #2? I'll find out since I want to speed through this series.
